James Franco is stepping back into the art world with his new exhibition, Hollywood is Hell, at Galerie Gmurzynska in Zurich. Known for his eclectic career and tumultuous past, Franco’s latest artistic venture showcases 28 assemblages created over the past two years. Drawing inspiration from Robert Rauschenberg, the works reflect on life in Los Angeles during the pandemic, blending vibrant colors, cultural icons, and haunting themes of decay.

But Franco’s return isn’t without its challenges. Following allegations of misconduct that derailed his Hollywood career in 2018, this marks his first major art show since admitting to past wrongdoings in 2021. With pieces like He Smelled So Bad, Franco explores the grit and glamour of L.A., intertwining his personal reckoning with broader societal critiques.

The exhibition asks big questions: Can an artist rebuild credibility after public fallout? And will the art world embrace this complex, controversial figure?

James Franco: Hollywood is Hell opens February 17, 2025, at Galerie Gmurzynska. Whether a comeback or a critique, it’s a show that’s sure to spark conversation, and we will be there to witness, analyze, and share every moment with you.
